A Quickstart Guide : How To Get A Real Estate License In Kentucky

Step 1: Make sure you meet the basic requirements

The basic requirements to get a Kentucky real estate license are simple. Do you meet these requirements?

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You are a US citizen or have the legal right to work in the US
  • If you have a criminal history of any kind, you must disclose it with your application. A criminal history does not automatically disqualify you from getting a real estate license in Kentucky. It would be wise to include a letter of explanation with your application if you have a criminal history.

Step 2: Register for real estate licensing classes

A real estate license is required for most real estate jobs. Kentucky has educational requirements you must fulfill before they will let you get a real estate license, which are completed with the following:

  • A 96 hour pre-licensing course, OR
  • You are a licensed attorney in the state of Kentucky

Step 3: Apply to take the Kentucky real estate exam

You can apply to take the Kentucky real estate exam after you have completed the licensing education requirements. The Kentucky real estate exam fee is $100.

There are two portions to the Kentucky real estate exam: State and national. If you pass one portion and fail the other portion, you are only required to retake the failed portion. The retake must happen within four months of the original exam date.

Step 4: Complete the Kentucky real estate license application

The application will ask you some basic questions about you and your background, including any other real estate licenses you have held or currently hold. The Kentucky license application fee is $60.

You must submit your application within 60 days of passing the state exam otherwise your exam results will be void and you will have to retake the exam.
