A Quickstart Guide : How To Get A Real Estate License In Alaska

Step 1: Make sure you meet the basic requirements

  • Legal presence in the US–citizen or permanent resident
  • Proof of address in the US (can be any US state)
  • At least 19 years old
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Any person with a felony conviction must have completed their sentence
  • Pass the licensing exam provided by the state after completing the educational requirements

Step 2: Register for real estate licensing classes

A real estate license is required for most real estate jobs. Alaska has requirements you must fulfill before they will let you get a real estate license. None of them are difficult, but they must be completed before you can start your real estate career.

You are required to complete 60 hours of pre-license courses before you can take the state exam. Once you have completed those 60 hours, you have six months to take the exam or you will have to take the course again.

Real estate license renewals in Alaska happen on even-numbered years.

Step 3: Apply to take the Alaska real estate exam

Alaska real estate exams are all offered electronically in Fairbanks, Juneau and Anchorage. The examination fee is $100, and you can request a different location for the exam for a fee of $50.

Step 4: Complete the Alaska real estate license application

Your application MUST be completed within six months of passing the state exam. If you do not submit everything they need within 90 days, they will void your exam results and you will have to start that process again. So don’t dilly-dally!

The Alaska real estate license application requires:

  • The completed application
  • Application fee of $50
  • License fee of $275
  • Surety fund fee $30

You must also complete 30 hours of post-licensing education after you receive your license.
